What I wanted to discuss was the idea of Weight
Weight can be both good and bad as well as physical and emotional
Good weight makes you stronger. Its like a barbell. Squat it to make ur butt fatter and legs stronger
ex. Responsibility, teammates, drive to do/be more
Bad weight weighs you down and holds you back
This book taught me that both fear and failure are positive weight while fear of failure is a negative weight
Fear of failure stems from self-doubt and it leads to complacency. Which we know, can kill you. (ch 5)
Isn’t it like Goliath?
From last week’s discussion, we realized that goliaths are only scary from some perspectives and that they’re made and removed by us. They’re slayed by our liberating love for our Davids and our realization of our self-worth.
Taking it further, I realized that you can’t always get rid of Goliaths by yourself.
Pg 220 “ Nobody gets to the top of Mt Everest by themselves. Nobody”
In the chapter about coming up short.
Alison said “No matter how hard I tried every day, I could not keep up with my teammates who were bigger and taller and, hell, stronger than I will ever be… And it feels more miserable when you know you are hurting the team’s chances of success.”
Eric and George’s action didn’t just help take away her physical weight, but emotional as well and in the process, it made them stronger.
I don’t think the weight just disappeared but it was transferred from one person to another.
I would also argue that Alison’s negative weight turned into a positive weight for Eric and George.
This reinforces the importance of community and having good bonds with your team
